Class Textbook: Technology Interactions
Course Description/Objective ------------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this class is to give students an opportunity to explore the areas of technology and associated careers available in technical fields. Students will be given the opportunity to solve technological problems while gaining an understanding of the effects of technology on out everyday lives.
The class is designed to give students the opportunity to learn about the latest generation of computer-based learning systems through hands-on activities.
The sixteen-station lab provides students with access to a wide range of technology topics; Some of which are: Digital Sound Technology, Digital Photography, Electronic Communications, Graphics & Animation, Web Page Design, Lasers, Fiber Optics, Multimedia Production, and Robotics, just to name a few.
Course schedule ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students will begin the course by learning the class rules and teacher expectations.
Students will be learn technological
terms and vocabulary required to intelligently communicate in the technological classroom/world.
Students will be instructed on the class safety rules, zones, and procedures. All students must pass the safety test with a 70% or better in order to work with the class equipment!
Students will be instructed on the proper operation and use of a Dell Optiplex 745 PC computer.
Students will be familiarized with the concept of computer-based learning and ultimately, all students will be allowed to begin their exploration of the technology related modules located around the classroom.
Periodically the class will be brought together for class activities such as Robotics and Structural Engineering.
Classroom Policies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All students will be seated in their assigned seats by the ringing of the late bell.
Class begins with the class copying several technology related terms into their notebook. This will allow the teacher to take attendance and prepare for the class.
Students who are absent or arrive late to class will be responsible for getting the terms and definitions from the teacher any morning before first period begins, or from a classmate. Technology term handouts will not be issued to students.
Students will be quizzed periodically on the technology terms. Students will be allowed to use their own notes for these quizzes.
After the terms are copied and attendance is taken, the teacher issue further instructions.
Students are to leave their book bags at their assigned seats when working on the modules.
Students will work on their assigned module for a period of 10 class hours. After the 10 hr./days period, all students will be evaluated and the students with the highest class averages get to pick their module first. Students will not allowed to work on the same module twice.
The teacher will inform the class to clean up their stations 5 minutes before the end of the class period. The teacher (not the bell) will dismiss the class.
Class Material Requirements ------------------------------------------------------------------
It is strongly suggested that each student comes to class properly equipped with paper, a class notebook, and a pen or pencil.
Some of the projects available to students (such as CO2 dragsters) require a materials fee (cost of the supplies) in order for the student to be allowed to take the project home after completion.
No student will be prohibited from participating in any activity due to lack of funds! (They just not be allowed to take the project home afterwards.)
Student Groups ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because cooperative education has been known to be one of the best ways for students to learn, students in this class are allowed to pair themselves up with a student partner of their choice. These student groups are limited to two students per group. Because each student’s grade is directly affected by his/her group’s effort, it is strongly suggested that student pick their partners wisely.
Restroom Privilege ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students will be allowed to visit the restroom one at a time for emergency purposes only.
Students must first ask for permission, get a hall pass, and sign out before leaving the classroom to go anywhere.
School policy states that no student will be allowed to visit the restroom during the first and last 10 minutes of class!
Classroom Behavior ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students are expected to behave themselves appropriately while in the Technology lab.
There is a lot of expensive equipment in the lab that will not be replaced if broken. Subsequently, any student seen abusing or misusing any equipment will be not be allowed back on the hands-on modules until such time as the teacher and the administration have held a conference. The student(s) will instead be assigned to learn technology out of a textbook!
The school’s discipline plan will be followed and enforced in this class!
Class Attendance / Tardy policy -------------------------------------------------------------
Because this is a hands-on class, excessive absences can affect a student's class grade. It is strongly recommended that parents or guardians contact the teacher if a student is going to be absent for any lengthy period of time.
Students arriving late to class without a pass will be dealt with according to the school’s discipline plan.
It is a student's responsibility to request a pass from any school staff member that prevents him/her from arriving to class on time. Going to the restroom between classes is not an excuse for being late to class.
Evacuation / Fire Drill Procedure ----------------------------------------------------------
Students are reminded that fire drills are periodically conducted for everyone’s safety and are therefore serious events. Upon hearing the fire bell, student will wait until the teacher has given the Okay for student to leave for the assigned evacuation station. (The evacuation station for our class is posted by the class doors.)
Students are to bring their backpacks and quickly walk together to the evacuation station.
The teacher will be the last person out of the class to ensure that all students are out of the lab and then lock the door. Attendance will be taken as soon as the teacher arrives at the evacuation station. Any student not at the designated evacuation station will be referred to the grade level administrator.
Class Grading Policy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Students will periodically be evaluated and receive a numerical grade from 100 - 0 for all work assigned.
Students will receive a class participation grade each week.
Module work grades are worth double.
Any work not completed or turned in will be recorded as a “0”. Students are reminded that they have a limited amount of time to complete their work and must use their lab time wisely. Rushing through your work because you send your time talking instead of working will cost you!
There will be no homework assigned in this class except as punishment for inappropriate behavior.
Students that do not reach or attain a 70% on their module will be required to do book work for the length of the next module rotation unless a parent/teacher conference or communication has been established.
Project/Assignment Make-up Policy ----------------------------------------------------------
The teacher will periodically schedule make-up days. These days are to be used by students needing extra time to complete their work. Furthermore, students may also make prior arrangements with the teacher to come into the lab in the morning before the start of first period to complete work.
Miscellaneous ----------------------------------------------------------------

The following class rules will be followed in class:
* No gum chewing,
